The "It's Technically Friday" Shuffle

Yes, yes, I know: long time, no update. Things are going well here, and I'll be posting a bit of a photo-essay shortly. Currently, however, it's pre-dawn on Friday and, owing to an inventory at work which kept me on the job for nearly 14 hours, I'm awake and feeling frisky. So, that makes it time for the Friday Shuffle:
  1. "Pull Out" - Death From Above 1979
  2. "Mysterons" - Portishead
  3. "Strawberry Fields Forever" - The Beatles
  4. "In the Garage" - Weezer
  5. "Over My Head" - King's X
  6. "First Kiss" - They Might Be Giants
  7. "Guerilla Radio" - Rage Against The Machine
  8. "I Want To Hold Your Hand" - The Beatles
  9. "Good Day Sunshine" - The Beatles
  10. "Oily Night" - Tom Waits
  11. "Sweet Emotion" - Aerosmith
  12. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" - The Rolling Stones
  13. "So What'cha Want?" - The Beastie Boys
  14. "Venus" - Television
  15. "Colony of Birchmen" - Mastodon
Because I'm wired a certain way, I tend to ascribe meaning to random events. Not in any serious, OCD, schizophrenic way—more in a delighted, happy way. Anyway, this particular shuffle—for reasons that are, and will become (when I do the aforementioned photo-essay), obvious—seems particularly apt. However, there is one little bit that tickled my synapses which might not be clear to everyone who's not me. So, I'll point it out: "Pull Out" followed immediately by Portishead (arguably the sexiest music on the planet) gave me the initial impression that my iPod was telling me a dirty joke. That impression thinned out a bit as I listened through the rest of the random selections, although "First Kiss", "Sweet Emotion" and "Oily Night" gave it just the right amount of resonance, so I'm still sort of chuckling about it.

Take care, y'all. I'll be back soon. Ish.

Soon-ish. :)

So, where the hell have I been? Well, a funny thing happened to me on the way to Aiken: my car's transmission gave up the ghost in Waynesboro, Georgia. This led to a few days of intense stress and strife figuring out what to do, which was to get the transmission replaced, which is amazingly expensive, which was stressful and depressing in and of itself.

Anyway, long story short: because of the kindness of friends and a well-timed deposit of my federal tax return, everything looks like it's going to shape up okay. But it was touch-and-go there for a few days, it really was. At one point I was considering leaving the car in a Waynesboro parking lot and going off to live in the woods all Georgia Swamp Ape style.

Now, though, things are looking much brighter. We're working toward getting me a spot cleared to set up my own computer, at which point you may be able to expect more from me in terms of online communications. Until then, I'll keep trying to check in every Friday.

Or thereabouts. :)
